I started this journal in order to try breaking through my writer’s block by trying to write in an entirely new style. I’ve wandered through fandom for years, but never been interested in writing fic before recently. I started taking prompts as a personal challenge, in order to experiment with new styles, different types of stories, and new ways of writing. Feedback is always appreciated!

Summary: From this prompt at the the Merlin Kink Meme: Arthur/Merlin. Merlin's mother is the daughter of the King of Demetia (Dyved, kingdom in southern Wales). When Merlin's true heritage comes to light, everything changes.
Contains: The set-up for a longer story involving Sekrit Princesses, magic, politics and UST.
Word count: 4434 (this chapter)
Notes: For the purposes of this fic, Camelot is the name of both the kingdom and its capital city, and it lies over where Cornwall, Devon and Somerset are today, allowing Mercia to be the neighbouring kingdom that covers the east and the midlands of England. I’ve changed the spellings from the Roman (Demetia and Dyved) to the Welsh. In this fic, Dyfed, pronounced ‘DIV-ed’, the Demetae kingdom, roughly covers the South of Wales, and is therefore directly across what we now call the Bristol Channel from Camelot.

I'm sorry this is both so late and so cliffhangery an opening chapter; I have the next sections planned out, but I felt that it was better to get this up sooner rather than just waffle around with it for ages trying to get all the pieces right. It will almost definitely be edited later in order to fit into what I want the story to be, but I've been feeling guilty about taking so long, so here's the beginning.

She has been the Sammy to my Dean for the last four years, and I am a better and happier person because I know her. And because Maya-quotes tied our heartstrings so closely together, the title makes it an homage to sarahtales' epics, which got us told off in our old school library for giggling too loudly. (Yes, the title is a Maya quote. You're just going to have to re-read 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' and 'The Way We Get By' until you find it. What a dreadful task for you.)
